Your Tears Are Not For Naught

14EA0BFA-B310-4F51-91AA-4A2CD0EB6660Bishop Paul S. Morton sung a song several years ago entitled “Your Tears”.  It is a beautiful song that  reminded me of the times I’ve faced pain and heartache in my own life.  He went on to say our tears are just a release of our pain, sorrow, or grief, expressions that can’t be controlled.  I believe our tears are a release of our pain.  There are people who will hold back their tears but this doesn’t mean you will not feel the pain.  In this world we all will suffer pain and heartache and tears will fall no matter how much we try to avoid them.  This song reminded me that pain and suffering is part of life and only God can help us with the sorrow in our heart.   I thank God for the ability to cry when my heart is broken.  When the tears have finished flowing, God helps me to move forward in faith.   I entrust every teardrop to Him, who is able to keep me from falling.

According to Psychology Today, like the ocean, tears are salt water. Protectively they lubricate your eyes, remove irritants, reduce stress hormones, and they contain antibodies that fight pathogenic microbes. Our bodies produce three kinds of tears: reflex, continuous, and emotional. Each kind has different healing roles.

  • reflex tears are tears which work to protect the human eyes from harsh irritants such as smoke and  onions or a strong dusty wind.
  • continuous tears is usually caused by irritation or inflammation of the surface of the eye.
  • emotional tears reduces pain and works to improve mood.  In addition to physical detoxification, emotional tears heal the heart. You don’t want to hold tears back.

David is expressing emotional tears in Psalm 56:8.  David is no different from any of us in the face of suffering and heartache.  He knew in his time of distress he needed a merciful God.  He knew he could not stand without the mercy of God Almighty.  David knew the love of God and how much God cared for him. Sometimes we believe that we can fight our battle without God’s help, but God’s word clearly state the  battle belong to the Lord.  God is the God of Justice.  He knows the reason for our tears, he knows the who, what and where behind our tears, therefore, let God be the Avenger.

1 Samuel 24:12, The Amplified Bible states:

May the Lord judge between me and you, may the Lord avenge me upon you but my hand will not be upon you.

There were many times in my life I found myself in the midst of a painful situation.  I would tell my husband that I need a good cry.  He has never to this day understood what crying was going to accomplish.  In fact, it made him upset to hear me say “I need a good cry”.   With my knees bent I went before the Lord and let the tears fall.  In my brokenness I declared to God that I could not handle this pain apart from Him.  I asked my Father for direction and guidance.  During my time of suffering God was purging.  I can admit that before the pain entered in I had become complacent and I was no longer bearing fruit.  Sure I was doing good things, but not the things that God was asking me to do.  God was looking for obedience.  So like David when the suffering came, I remembered to look up and to trust in the God who had delivered me so many times before.  I had to be honest with myself concerning my pain.  I had to be honest about what got me here.  I had to be honest about my decisions and choices.  They have a price and the payment due date will come.  Then there were times when the people in my family made wrong choices that brought pain to the entire family.  No matter what the circumstance, God remained faithful.  My tears has become the greatest teaching tool for me.  As God promised in Romans 8:28, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.

David knew how to handle the battles in his life, he relinquished them to God .  Beloved, God knows the reason for your tears.  We must learn to trust God with unwavering faith while standing on His promises.  God promised He would never leave or forsake us.

Just maybe God sees our tears as a prayer knowing that we desperately need God to help us through our suffering. He knows exactly what caused the pain. Nothing is a secret to Him.  God has promised us pain and suffering in this world and He uses our pain as his instrument to bring about change in our life.  Sometimes pain is caused by our own choices and often times it is caused by others.  Nevertheless, it does not matter what caused the pain, but know that God knows the reason for the pain.  Sometimes God may use our pain to bring us closer to Him.  God knows of every tear that has fallen and why.  Could our tears be the beginning of our healing?  Could our tears help us to embrace the truth behind our pain.  It helps us to release our pain to the God of Hope.  God love you and cares  for you right where you are.  He is the Author and the Finisher of your faith.  What God started in you He will finish.

Matthew 10:29, New Translation Bible records the following:

“What is the price of two sparrows-one cooper coin?  But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing.  God care about the sparrows, how much more He cares about you.  The one who was created in His image (Genesis 1:27)”.

Your tears do not go unnoticed.  Your tears matter to God.  They have a purpose.

In Psalm 56:8, David says, “Thou tellest my wanderings:

The definition of wandering is characterized by aimless, slow, or pointless movement.  God knows our wandering journey.  Sometimes our wandering bring us to tearful places  where our pain is overwhelmingly hard.  Wandering sometimes lead us away from the truth which causes us to drift from God.  We may find ourselves wandering in the wilderness, but God know where we are at all times.

Psalm 107:4: They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

Psalm 107:7:  And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

Psalm 107:14:  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

David understood who was in control of his life even when he wandered from the truth.  Many are our tears and afflictions, but they have a purpose. David said not only do you know of my sorrows, but they written in a book. Yes, your tears and afflictions are seen by God.  They have a purpose even if we don’t understand.  Your pain has a purpose and God alone decided on the duration. He has measured its beginning to the end.  It shall work out for your better good.  God’s word over your life will not return to him void.  In His book of remembrance he has numbered the days and it will not go any further than the Lord requires.  When God says it is finished, it will be finished.  it is already finished!!

Psalm 126:5, Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.

Psalm 34:17, The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

The righteous need not worry.  David knew God was with him. He trust in God even when the waiting was uncomfortable. David knew God would deliver Him in the fulfillment of His time. Know today my brother and sister in Christ that our God is no respecter of persons.  The same God who delivered David will deliver you.

People don’t seem to care about the pain they cause others to go through, but understand that God Almighty cares and He is taking record of every assault.  Remember Paul in Acts 26:15!

“Who are you lord?  I asked.  “And the Lord replied, ‘I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting.

Remember child of God, every step you take are counted and recorded by God.  You may not remember every step you take, but the omniscient God remembers every detail of your life journey.  Are they not in thy book?  Yes, every detail is recorded along with the grief.  God hearken to the cries of his children.  David trust that the Lord would be considerate of his tears as to store them up in a special place, never to be hidden by man.  David understood the love of God.  He knew that God was concern about him and his tears are never for nothing.  Your tears will bring fourth the healing power of God that cannot be explained.  We all know tears are nothing but water.  Water is needed for things to grow.  As I have said,  your pain along with your tears have a purpose which is to help you to grow.  You shall receive what God has promised in Jeremiah 29:11.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.

The tears that I have shed in my life has brought me closer to God.  I like you, have made bad choices, but God has always worked them out for my good.  I trust God for everything concerning me and my family even in the mist of a painful situation.  If you look closely you will see the face of God in the darkest of situations.  He is the Light.  Keep your eyes on Him.  Move when He tells you to  move.  Stop when He tells you to stop.  If you have not heard from Him then remain where you are until you get further instructions.

9369d615d618580814a25b0fec015818Father God, help your children to understand the love of God that surpasses our understanding.  Your love for us have no conditions.  We don’t have to do anything to receive your love.  Father God you so loved the world that You give the world your only begotten son.  Jesus Christ, your Son died for us.  Our life is of great value to you.   Right now in the midst of their tears and pain let them know that they are not alone.  Let them know that your love for them will carry them through their pain, they shall overcome.  Help your children to trust and have faith in you always.  Amen
