Shielded By His Glory (Part II)

My friends and family know how much I enjoy taking pictures of God’s artwork.  It brings me great joy to be a  witness of God’s glory in the clouds.  Many of my friends called me the “cloud chaser.”  His glory surrounds us each day.  God promised us , if we seek Him with our whole heart we shall find Him.  We are surrounded with signs and wonders  every day when He allows us to open our eyes.  Everyday is an opportunity to see God’s greatness.

Let me put it this way!  Everyday God allows us to see his glory, to bathe in His presence.  His glory is when we witness His healing power in our sick bodies.  I witness His glory everyday when my grand baby smiles back at me when I sing good morning to him. The word of God  a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  God gives me hope in the difficult days!  When I  turn on the television and see the violence happening so close to home it is easy to become fearful.  It is easy to lose hope.  When you feel hopeless, hold on to the word of God.  His word will strengthen you.  God doesn’t want his children to detour from the truth of His word.

My inner peace have been interrupted.  The violence that has taken place in our nation is beyond horrific.  In prayer I asked God, is this our “new normal”.  God whispered, “Remember Moses.”  Exodus 33 details God’s promise to Moses that His presence will go with him.  God promised us the same.  Be like Moses and seek God with your whole heart and He promise you will find Him.  His presence will go with us.  Moses knew  without God’s presence he could not lead the children of Israel.  In fact Moses said if you are not present with us, do not send us forward.  When was the last time you said to God that you needed His presence to go with you.  You knew that what you are facing you cannot go it alone.  Did you ever say to God if you are not with me I will not go!   Moses prayed to God.

Let us look at Exodus 33:13-14:

13  Now, therefore, I pray if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

14  And he said,  My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Moses knew what was important to him.  Moses asked God to show him His way, why?  The most important reason of all. that he may know God.  God answered Moses and said, my presence shall go with thee and I will give you rest.

Do you need REST?  GOD is the ONLY answer.

Moses had one more request he presented to God, it is found in Exodus 33:18.

18  And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

Why do you suppose seeing God’s glory was important to Moses?   Moses had just witness the splitting of the Red Sea.  He saw for himself the power of  the Living God as he and the children of Israel stood before the Red Sea.

Let us look at Exodus 14:13-14, 21-22 as Moses and the people of God faced the Red Sea on one side and the Egyptian soldiers on the other side.

13  And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord which he will shew to you today:  for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

14  The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

21  And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

22  And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

Moses and the children of Israel witness the power of God right before their eyes.  I am sure that they all believed they would die at the hands of the Egyptians.  There  was no hope.  But God was not done.  What a glorious victory for them to witness.  God kept His promise.  They would no longer have to worry about the Egyptians.

God showed Moses and the Israelites what He alone is capable of doing.  Who has such power!  Only God Almighty.  Could you imagine the sea splitting in half and allowing them to  across dry land to safety.  Could you even imagine the defeated face of Pharoah.  His entire army destroyed by the hand of God Himself.  After seeing such great power you would think that would be all Moses needed.  But it wasn’t all Moses needed.  So why did Moses request to see God’s glory after witnessing God’s power?  Wasn’t His power enough?  Moses knew there was more to God then what their eyes witness.  Moses wanted to  know more about God.  Who is this God with so much power that he is able to split the Red Sea?  Moses wanted to know the God of Abraham, the God of Issac and the God of Jacob.   I would always tell friends and love ones that I know what God is capable of doing in my life, but I wanted to know what would cause me not to receive all that God has for me.  I still thirst to know more about God’s character.

Encouraged by God’s favorable reply, Moses adds to his request to know God’s ways, with a request to behold God’s Presence.  Moses witness the power of God and now he wanted to know God visually as well.  He was seeking total familiarity with God.

Exodus 33: 19 – 23:

19  And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee, and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

20  And he said, thou canst not see my face:  for there shall no man see me, and live.

21  And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22  And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass:

23  And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts:  but my face shall not be seen.

God allowed Moses to see His GOODNESS.

What is God’s Goodness?

The goodness of God is not only an attribute of God, but it is the foundational truth of who GOD is.  The goodness of God is viewed as the sum of all God’s attributes.  When we speak of God’s attributes, we are speaking about those characteristics that helps us to understand who he truly is.  Here is a list of just some of God’s attributes.

  • Eternality
  • Goodness
  • Grace
  • Holiness
  • Justice
  • Love
  • Mercy
  • Omnipotence
  • Omnipresence
  • Omniscience
  • Sovereignty
  • Transcendence

This is the GOD that Moses believed in, the God that he trusted and the GOD that he would forever follow.  The only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion, and power, both now and forever.  This is our GOD who shields us with His glory.  His very presence is our divine protection.  Moses knew yet another important fact, without God’s presence he could not lead the people of Israel.  Apart from God he could do nothing.  God wanted Moses to know that no matter what he may have to face in life, He will never walk alone.  We serve an All-Knowing and All-Seeing God.  He is in control of every situation.  Every situation has its purpose.  God would like for us to remember His word as the days will get darker, but God is the Light of this world. Remember Moses and the children of Israel he was task to lead.  God called Moses therefore, He alone will equip Moses with everything he needed to complete his task.

God kept His promise to  Moses and revealed to him His Glory.  Moses was Shield by the Glory of God.  The same is for every child of God.  Yes, we are living in times of great sorrow in our nation, but GOD will take care of us and place us in the cleft of the rock and cover us with his hand while trouble passes by.  For God himself is our Rock.  His Glory will forever be our Shield.  Follow Moses direction.  Pray and seek God’s face.  He will show  you His Glory!

I leave you with Romans 8:28 – 30 taken from The Inspirational Bible, New Century Version, Max Lucado General Editor:

We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him.  They are the people he called, because that was his plan.  God knew them before he made the world, and he decided that they would be like his Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of many brothers.  God planned  for them to be like his Son; and those he planned to be like his Son, he also called; and those he called, he also made right with him; and those he made right, he glorified.

Leave the troubles of this world to God Almighty and behold His Glory.  He will not fail you!  Believe!  Believe!  Believe!

To God Be The glory!!
